Bristol’s week in film: July 30-August 5 2021

The fifth annual Cinema Rediscovered is the big news this weekend, laden as it is with restorations and revivals, including Nick Park’s very first film – plus a focus on Bristol cinema pioneer William Friese-Greene.

Over at the Cinema De Lux, they have a trio of rather excellent highlights from this year’s Sundance Festival. If you want to catch previews of Zola, The Nest or Writing with Fire before they go on general release, now’s your chance.

Should blockbusters be more your bag, Disney’s Jungle Cruise is showing in both 2D and 3D, while supervillain enthusiasts will be overjoyed at the arrival of The Suicide Squad (distinguished from its poorly received predecessor by the definite article).

With luck, the weather will have perked up a bit for the Film & Food Fest up on the Downs, which opens on Thursday with a local film showcase.
