Pennywise the dancing clown fends off Queen Vic as the record-breaking IT secures another week at the top. That said, Stephen Frears won’t be too disappointed as Victoria & Abdul eclipsed Philomena to become his biggest opener at the UK box office. With its mature audience trundling to cinemas at a more sedate pace than those unseemly hordes of stampeding blockbuster punters, it’s poised to continue to do well over the coming weeks. Despite all the hype, Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! proved something of a disappointment for Paramount, but at least it beat American Assassin to bag fourth place. In the kiddie animation stakes, feeble newcomer The Jungle Bunch failed to dislodge current champ The Emoji Movie. But with £46.5m in the kitty after 12 weeks on the chart, Despicable Me 3 remains unassailable. Dunkirk is finally started to fade, but continues to crawl up the all-time UK box office chart. It’s just overtaken Casino Royale and is bearing down on The Dark Knight Rises.
