Shetland comedian Marjolein Robertson brings her acclaimed show to the South West
Hailing from Shetland and now based in Edinburgh, Marjolein Robertson is a comedian on the rise.
Earning Edinburgh Fringe award nominations as well as countless positive reviews for her show Marj, she has now embarked on her debut UK tour, which arrives in Bristol in May.
The piece is described as “an hour of surreal standup entwined with one of Shetland’s most famous folktales, The Selkie Story” (surrounding a magical half-seal, half-woman hybrid).

Robertson interweaves this mythical narrative with true components of her own life, which has been shaped by abuse, realisation and recovery.
“I’ve always wanted to tour a show,” she reflects. “I wrote Marj to help me process what I’d been through. It feels special that this should be the one I share across the country.
“Every day during the Fringe as the audience left, there would be folk coming up to me to share their own experiences and how the show was a comfort to them.
“That to me matters more than any of the accolades or reviews. I hope this show can continue to help folk.
“Also this tour gives me an excuse to go to Bristol. There’s a pretty rad boat I’d like to see. I really like boats.”
