Code of the Streets celebrates 20 years of club nights in Bristol
Code of the Streets started out as a mixtape series back in 2001 by DJ Style, the tape and CD compilation focused heavily on new releases featuring international and local artists, its availability was widespread throughout Bristol at local outlets.
The physical copy of the mixtapes are still available and are provided at all of the nights.
It created a huge audience and at the same time built on the brand’s momentum, it was at this point that Code of the Streets became a resident club night.
is needed now More than ever

Establishing its monthly residency at Cosies in 2004, it brought local revellers together, looking for a different experience of a night out.
After a number of years, the popularity of the night outgrew its capacity in Cosies and eventually moved to Basement 45. This would enable the night to accommodate a larger crowd, with a later license.
Code of the streets became Basement 45 longest running nights. The COVID-19 lockdown brought new changes to the night and prompted it to move to its current home at Rumors Lounge and Bar in Kingswood.
Firmly established as being one of the pioneer nights promoting RnB, Hip Hop, Dancehall and Old School music, it also occasionally provided a platform for emerging artists to perform at. From the success of the mixtape, it then formed into a radio show, which would be featured on a number of R.S.L (Restricted Service License) stations.
Code of the Streets radio show has gone on to grow from strength to strength being regularly featured every Saturday night 8pm – 10pm on Bristol’s multi-award winning station Ujima 98fm since 2008.
The show has featured interviews with the likes of Carleen Anderson Brand New Heavies/Young Disciples), Omar, Big Narstie, DJ Nature (AKA Milo-Wild Bunch), Bobby V, YXNG Bane, hip hop legend Kurtis Blow, TV personality Shaun Wallace from The Chase.

The hugely popular event has seen people coming back again and again
In 2023 and 2024 Code of the Streets was recognised for their talent as they became the recipient of the Beacon Urban Music Award for Best Promoters.
Founder and resident DJ Style said “It’s always amazing to see such loyalty shown in an ever-changing industry. To still be a part of people’s entertainment 20 years later, is the ultimate compliment for this night.”
To mark the 20th year, it will be hosting a number of events with its main event on Saturday, May 24 at Rumours Lounge and Bar. Featuring: Pure Vibes, Ganzi, DJ Fagan, Sim Citi (Ujima Radio) and the founder himself DJ Style (BBC Radio Bristol).
The event will be hosted by General D. Tickets can be brought on Skiddle.
