Bristol’s smallest cafe to get a ‘little book stop’
To celebrate their 90th anniversary, Penguin are installing 90 ‘Little Book Stops’ across the UK including one outside the smallest cafe in Bristol.
3ft 6 will be the location of the book exchange, with co-owner Jack Barnett becoming its volunteer steward, ensuring that the community bookshelves are kept tidy and well stocked.
The cafe within a garage on Lancaster Street in Redfield was chosen as one of 90 locations by Penguin in partnership with the non-profit Little Free Library.

“Our main focus is being part of the community, helping the community and improving the community, and so we we thought this initiative would be a great opportunity for that,” said Jack on a recent afternoon at 3ft 6, sitting outside with his partner Jess Smith and their dog, Pablo.
“Access to books is becoming more difficult for certain people as well so we thought that would also be another good opportunity…
“I hope these books can spark an inspiration for someone to learn something, or share some new knowledge or have a conversation with someone.”
Jess added that since taking over from 3ft 6’s original owner Sav, “we have felt very welcomed”.
“Nowadays it can be rare to meet your neighbours but this space is brilliant for that and we hope that our Little Book Stop can really add to that feel.”
