New bookshop to pair novels with wine
Bibliophiles and oenophiles will both be in for a treat at a new bookshop with a unique concept.
The BookCellar promises book and wine pairing at their shop opening soon on Stokes Croft, with “honest opinions, no spoilers and no wine snobbery”.
Pairings have already begun on the BookCellar’s Instagram page including Butter by Asako Yuzuki with a French Chardonnay from les Anges, Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham with a Grand Chateau Du Soleil sparkling wine from Spain and Butcher’s Crossing by John Williams with the Italian classic Amarone della Valpolicella.
The BookCellar, co-founded by Thomas and Claire Bartley, will be opening in late-April at 100 Stokes Croft.
The shopfront – which has the ghost sign of Snow’s Stores above its front door – was most recently boutique charity shop Treasure and before that a car parts store.

The BookCellar, whose sole director Thomas Bartley has a registered business address in Hotwells, promises to “pair thoughtfully curated books with a carefully chosen wine and coffee offer”.
Their website says: “We’ll create a calm, welcoming space for browsing, reading and conversation, bringing together great books, good drinks and a strong sense of community.”
