Words to show solidarity for Gaza

By Karen Johnson  Thursday Sep 26, 2024

A grassroots movement equipped with armours of literature and language is standing steadfast with the people of Palestine.

For their first-ever event, Words for Gaza will be hosting poets, authors and speakers from Bristol and Somerset to showcase powerful literary expressions at Malcolm X Community Centre in St Paul’s.

A spokesperson from Words for Gaza called this “one of the largest” literary events for Palestine in the southwest.

This will be Words for Gaza’s first ever event celebrating Palestinian Voices

They added: “Words for Gaza: a Literary Fundraiser for Palestine will be one of the largest literary events in support of Palestine ever hosted in the southwest and will feature a stellar line-up of renowned Bristol and Somerset poets, authors, and speakers.

“Our guests include Nikesh Shukla, Salena Godden, Noreen Masud, Vanessa Kisuule, Sukina Noor, and many more. Our speakers will share their own work or work by a Palestinian writer.

They continued: “The evening will culminate with a play written by Palestinian children in collaboration with Bristol Palestine Alliance. This unique and enchanting performance will offer a poignant glimpse into the lives and experiences of young Palestinians.”

The movement inspires people to come together for the “Palestinian cause” and amplify their voices across the southwest region.

The event will take place from 5pm to 8pm, and tickets start from £10.
