What does the Bristol accent look like?
A local artist and designer has been exploring what the Bristol accent would look like.
George Poole, who works as a motion designer for Bristol-based design agency Something Familiar, has spent his spare time compiling typography from around the city to create ‘the Bristol font’.
George captured and individually selected more than 600 letters for the project, which he documented on his Instagram.

George sourced lettering from pub signs, gates and graffiti as part of his new project
“There’s nothing else that sounds like the Bristol accent and I wanted to capture that uniqueness,” George told Bristol24/7.
George explained that he only initially thought of the idea two weeks ago and, on a free afternoon, walked around the city documenting interesting lettering, fonts and signs.
“Moving around different parts of Bristol, you see this big wonderful mess of different cultural scenes and artistic people doing cool things, and it’s so special in that way,” he said.

“I’ve always had a fascination with type anyway, so it was quite easy to get fixated on finding nice bits of text around the city.”
George’s reel has now had more than 16,000 views, and he said the reception to the project has “just been mad”.
“Most things I make only get about 30 likes!” he laughed.
The designer said he is constantly thinking of new ideas for projects and creative pursuits in his “love letter to Bristol.”
