Three monkeys is third new Banksy mural in three days

By Cristina Pinuaga  Wednesday Aug 7, 2024

Banksy’s mural menagerie has continued with the appearance of three monkeys.

It’s the third day in a row that the Bristol street artist has revealed a new work following a mountain goat on Monday and two elephants on Tuesday.

The new mural consists of three swinging monkeys painted on the wall of a bridge crossing over east London’s Brick Lane.

People have been quick to notice that each mural depicts the number of animals that corresponds to the order in which it has been revealed.

The first mural depicted a mountain goat on top of a pillar, next to a CCTV camera pointing directly at it.

The second one showed two elephants’ heads reaching for each other with their trunks, painted on bricked up windows in west London.

As with the previous two pieces, people have taken to social media to discuss the different interpretations and possible meanings of Banksy’s animal-themed run, many suggesting political undertones.

One user commented: “All these animal related artworks by Banksy in urban towns/cities just reminds me of climate change and deforestation and animals having to move further into urban areas as no other choice?”

Some users speculate that this animal series has surely got to culminate in a big reveal of some kind.

“Banksy been active. 3 days in a row. We should prepare ourselves for something massive,” one fan wrote on Instagram.
