South Bristol walls to be filled with colour

By Bristol24/7  Sunday Apr 14, 2019

Street art festival Upfest may not happening be happening this year, but that won’t stop walls across south Bristol being filled with colour.

Upfest Summer Editions will see a number of local, national and international street artists paint a series of large murals across Bristol, starting on Monday with a collaboration between My Dog Sighs and Curtis Hylton at the Rising Sun pub in Windmill Hill.

Other spots to be painted between April and October will include the Tobacco Factory and Redpoint Climbing Centre. Accompanying the pieces will be exclusive print releases from each artist, available online and at the Upfest gallery on North Street.

Upfest Summer Editions will see invited artists paint walls acros south Bristol from April to October

As well as My Dog Sighs and Curtis Hylton, other artists taking part include L7m, Dale Grimshaw, Goin, Ant Carver, Gemma Compton, Copyright, Bex Glover, Kindose87, Jody and Zoe Power, with further artists due to be announced in the coming weeks.

Upfet founder Steve Hayles said: “While it’s been important for the team to have a break from the main festival this year, we wanted to create an opportunity for invited artists to still bring new art to the streets of south Bristol and for the public to witness these world-renowned artists at work.”

He added: “Upfest Summer Editions allows us to do this, while spreading visitor numbers and giving the team more time to focus on the invited artists and plans for the festival in 2020.”
