Bricks Bristol open call seeks regional artists for Lockleaze public art programme

By Sarski Anderson  Sunday Jan 5, 2025

Bricks Bristol are calling for artists to submit expressions of interest to a new £34,500 public art commission in the Lockleaze/Horfield area.

Based on the site of a former Bristol City Council depot, Vistry Group and Goram Homes are building a residential development of 140 new homes to the rear of Dovercourt Road, 30 per cent of which will be affordable.

The site benefits from adjacent woodland and ‘wildlife corridors’ through the surrounding urban areas, and the new development will also feature provision for open space and landscaping.

A commission code has been drawn up in conjunction with local residents, stating the public art programme must allow people “to pause, learn, enjoy and connect with other”, as well as being “interactive, playful, joyful and experiential” – allowing communities to deepen their connection to their environment.

Bricks are especially interested in receiving proposals from artists based in, or with strong connections to, Bristol and the South West region.
