Global Majority project celebrates summer success

By Ursula Billington  Monday Sep 2, 2024

The Pickle Factory in Easton will host a special celebration of nature, culture and creativity on Sunday.

Nature Rising, a collaborative project between the Black Seeds Network and Bristol’s Friends of the Earth group, has been running a series of events for Global Majority communities over the spring and summer.

In a culmination of the programme so far, they’ve put together an event which features interactive workshops, film screenings, discussions, dancing and music, in what they promise will be a ‘stunning showcase of culture and creativity.’

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The event will focus on pollinators, in keeping with the theme of the series of workshops so far.

Nature Rising has centred Global Majority experts, community leaders and communities in the nature connection programme.

It has involved Amrish Pandya of the Bristol Rainforest running growing workshops in primary schools, Divina Botanica‘s Elsie Harp sharing expertise on flower growing and arranging, and ‘eco artist’ Ian Solomon-Kawall, CEO of the May Project Gardens, hosting nature-themed hip hop sessions.

Other contributors include nature and wellbeing facilitator Jordan Wylde, youth worker Judit Davis, film producer Michelle Pascal, writer Roger Griffith MBE, environmental filmmaker Tay Aziz and St Paul’s-based social justice activist Tara Miran.

“What an incredible programme it’s been so far,” said Gnisha Bevan, who co-founded the project with Mike Birkin of Friends of the Earth.

“Four months of joy, learning, and success. We’ve been connecting and inspiring; sharing stories, expertise and, most importantly, joy!”

The celebratory event, which runs from 2-10pm on Sunday, September 8, begins with an introduction to Nature Rising, followed by afternoon pollinator workshops. There will be a ‘Love Community Resilience’ celebration from 6pm, then food and sound healing.

The evening will turn into a full-blown party with a jam hosted by Yes I Dub followed by DJs to finish the night.
