Rovers stadium court trial delayed
A High Court trial which could force Sainsbury’s to go through with their contract to purchase Bristol Rovers’ Memorial Stadium site has been delayed until tomorrow.
A Bristol Rovers spokesman said the hearing, due to start at the Royal Courts of Justice in London today, had been moved back by 24 hours, adding that there was no cause for concern.
Justice Peter Roth had previously said it was a priority to make a quick decision over the dispute which is holding up the club’s planned £40 million new stadium in Stoke Gifford.
The long-overdue move can only be financed if the supermarket giant purchases their current Horfield home. Delays have already cost the club over £1 million.
Sainsbury’s have recently announced a cutback in building new superstores, which could affect their decision to buy the Gloucester Road site.
Rovers announced they were taking the supermarket to court in January.
The team visit Wembley this weekend where they play Grimsby Town in the play-off final for a place back in the Football League.
