QEH sixth form to admit girls in 2017

As of September 2017, the historically all-male Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital School (QEH) Sixth Form will begin admitting girls who wish to study A Levels at the 426-year-old educational institution. 

This will be the first time females will be allowed to study at the school since QEH’s beginnings in 1590. The school’s Board of Governors voted unanimously for the change. 

However, the school will remain single sex for pupils aged seven to 16.

“At this age, the needs of boys and girls are different, their learning styles vary and there are many benefits for boys to be educated as boys in a school that understands their needs and caters well for them,” said QEH’s headmaster, Stephen Holliday, on the school’s website.

Students – male, female or otherwise – who wish to apply for September 2017 should contact Carolyn Matthews for further information and attend the Sixith Form Open Evening on Thursday, November 10, 2016.
