Hands-on music tech lessons for Bristol kids
An education programme combining music technology with engineering, electronics and coding is set to roll out to nine more schools across Bristol following a successful trial at Fairfield, Orchard and St Michael-on-the-Mount.
The Bristol Plays Music Technology Lab, developed by Conductive Music and funded by engineering company Renishaw, Arts Council England and Bristol Plays Music, aims to inspire young people to get involved with music and science by exploring the many links between the two subjects.
During sessions students will take part in hands-on activities including designing and building their own electronic instruments using soldering irons, conductive ink, wearable computers and even fruit and vegetables.
“We want to encourage and inspire young people with music so that it supports aspects of their wider learning,” says Phil Castang of Bristol Plays Music.
“Developing music participation in creative ways is part of our wider ambition to help make Bristol the UK capital of young people’s music.”
