The £100,000 grant supporting local environmental charities

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Oct 14, 2021

‘Seeds of Change’ is the new environmental programme that is offering £100,000 worth of micro-grants to small charities and good causes across Bristol and the UK.

Led by Neighbourly, the project’s aim is to help small charities and good causes have a bigger positive environmental impact on local communities.

The programme has been launched in the run-up to COP26 and will encourage businesses to make a positive environmental impact at a local level. The charities at the focus of this grant will be those that are helping to create green spaces for local communities and reduce CO2 emissions.

The focus on green spaces in cities is emphasised thanks to research that shows access to green spaces reduces depression, anxiety and stress. Whoever, only 35 per cent of the lowest-earning households in England are within a ten-minute walk of a natural green space, compared to the 59 per cent of the highest-earning households.

Grants will be available for local charities that are working on planting and environmental activities.

“If we really want to build back greener and better, local action built on local insights must come first,” said Steve Butterworth, the chief executive of Neighbourly.

“We’re confident that Seeds of Change can help to ensure healthier, happier and thriving communities and we’re calling for any other businesses wanting to support local communities through environmental programmes to join us. To deliver big goals, we must all think local.”
