Technology incubator launched for Black and minoritised entrepreneurs

By Rachel Sutherland  Monday Mar 27, 2023

A tech incubation programme has been launched for Black and minoritised entrepreneurs who are looking to enhance the use of technology in their businesses.

The Transformation Hub is being run by Black-led racial justice organisation, Black South West Network (BSWN), in collaboration with LV= General Insurance.

The 12-week programme will provide mentorship, workshops and resources to help entrepreneurs develop their business models, refine their products, and prepare for funding opportunities.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

As part of the opportunity, entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to network with other fellow business owners and investors, and will receive feedback on their ideas and strategies.

Research conducted by British Business Bank has found that only 2.5 per cent of technology leadership positions in the UK are held by Black and minoritised individuals.

It also found that only 2 per cent of the £13.2 billion that was invested in start-ups across the country in 2022 went to Black and minoritised start-ups.

Director of BSWN, Sado Jirde, said: “As the economy recovers from the compound effects of Covid-19, the war in Ukraine, increasing inflation and interest rates, and as tech becomes ever more integral to everything that we do.

“The BSWN Transformation Hub will play a key role in our work on inclusive growth; our work in creating a context in which everyone can benefit equitably from this economic growth and from their contribution to it.”

Entrepreneurs across the South West have until Friday, April 7 to apply. For more information and to apply, visit www.bit.ly/Transformation_Hub
