Rolls-Royce gives Bristol workers £2,000
Rolls-Royce will give a one-off payment of £2,000 to staff in Derby and Bristol to help ease the rising cost of living in the UK.
The payment is part of the engineering company’s announcement that it will offer 14,000 junior management and shop floor staff nationwide a £2,000 pay-out.
2,000 out of 3,000 staff working at Rolls-Royce’s Bristol facility will receive the payment, communications director Richard Wray told Bristol24/7.
The Bristol facility is the centre of the company’s activities in defence, assembling, testing and servicing jet engines for trainer, transport, and combat aircraft.
The company opened the innovation centre in 2020, securing 150 jobs in the region, representing an investment of £25m.
Around 30 employees were transferred from the Isle of Wight facility, as well as equipment to the Bristol facility.
One of the company’s research and university technology centres is also based at the University of Bristol.
In the rest of the UK, the remaining 11,000 unionised workers will receive the payment after their union approves the amount.
A Rolls-Royce spokesperson told the BBC that 70% of its UK workforce will receive the payment, adding that the company is also “offering our shop floor staff the highest annual pay rise for at least a decade.”
