Construction starts at South Bristol’s new Recycle Centre and Reuse shop

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Mar 16, 2021

Construction at a brand new Reuse & Recycling Centre will soon be starting in South Bristol.

The new Household Reuse and Recycling Centre will mean residents in the city will no longer have to travel to the existing facilities based in St Philips and Avonmouth.

Due to be completed in June 2022, the recycling facility meets the growing demand and provides local residents with a modern and accessible way to recycle household goods.

As well as providing a space to recycle, the new South Bristol centre will also be home to a purpose-built workshop. High quality, pre-loved items from the waste will be diverted and cleaned before being made available for purchase at low cost – with profits going into waste reduction schemes, as well as supporting local charities.

Avonmouth’s Reuse shop has already diverted 50 tonnes of items headed into the waste and into second homes for a new life.

Commenting on Bristol’s new reuse and recycling centre, Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, said: “It is great to deliver this facility that the residents of South Bristol have been waiting for, for many years. I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we now get on with the task of building this much-anticipated centre.”

“Part of our commitment to making Bristol cleaner and greener is further reducing the amount of waste that is sent to landfill, and this centre will help us to achieve this goal by supporting people to recycle, repair and reuse – giving pre-loved items a second life as often as possible.”

The new Household Reuse and Recycling Centre is based at Hartcliffe Way and will be the largest of its kind in the region.
