Bristol-born AI firm marks phase of growth with fresh funding
A Bristol-headquartered data and AI consultancy has recently received substantial boost to help its upward trajectory.
DATA3 has secured a £200,000 loan from the British Business Bank’s South West Investment Fund to support its continued growth and expansion of its team.
The funding, delivered via fund manager FW Capital, will help the firm scale both locally and globally.
Founded in 2017 by tech entrepreneur Helen Tanner, DATA3 has grown into a leading consultancy, delivering over 300 data and AI projects for clients around the world.
The Queen Square-based firm helps organisations of all shapes and sizes connect their disconnected data in a highly secure way. By bringing together data from across the business, they make it easy for teams to monitor performance—just like checking the weather.

With a team of engineers, scientists, and analysts, the company provides tailored, technology-neutral solutions to help SMEs harness data and AI securely and at scale. DATA3 now boasts a +92 net promoter score and a multi-million-pound turnover.
Helen Tanner, founder and chief executive at DATA3, said: “DATA3 began as a one-woman start-up and today is an established global award-winning data and AI business with a multi-million pound turnover. This is an exciting phase of our journey and we’re using this finance to scale up the business and create new jobs for local people passionate about data-driven and AI-powered products.
“Growing a business and being competitive is extremely difficult without the right support. It’s important to work with a finance partner who understands your vision and we’ve found just that with Jordan at FW Capital. He has helped us to access the South West Investment Fund which is supporting our plans to accelerate and strengthen our team.”
FW Capital’s Jordan Berg, who led the deal, highlighted DATA3’s strength as a female-led business in a high-growth sector, saying the funding would back further innovation and skilled job creation in the region.
Lizzy Upton from the British Business Bank added that the South West Investment Fund is designed to ensure ambitious regional businesses like DATA3 have the capital needed to scale and compete globally.
DATA3, which has demonstrated consistent growth over the years, was formerly a mentee of the Bristol-based incubator SETsquared.
