Better Food

By matt king, Thursday Apr 23, 2020

We are a Bristol-based independent retailer and café, specialising in organic, local and ethical food and products.

We’re on a mission to change grocery shopping for the better and we’d love you to be part of it.

We believe that the way we produce, buy and eat food is really important, so we opened a shop to help people access the very best food around.

From humble beginnings packing veg boxes in a kitchen in Bristol’s St. Werburghs, we’ve been serving our local community for over 25 years. Today, you can find us in three locations across the city, employing over 100 people passionate about food, health, the planet and our customers.

Better food

We like to work differently to most shops and prioritise our values, and our customers’ values, over profit. We are…

  • Organic

For us, organic means a better balance with nature and better care of our land, soil and wildlife. Wherever possible we buy organic.

  • Local

We aim to be a positive force in our community; engaging with local causes, campaigning about the things we believe in and making our stores a thriving hub of activity.

  • Ethical

We’re fiercely independent and put our money where our mouth is – only supporting suppliers that share our values and are local or organic (ideally both!).

Better Food

We want you to love every moment spent in our shops, so here are five top tips to making the most of Better Food

1. Refills

Check out our wide range of packaging free goods. From dried essentials, household and bodycare, loose teas, spices and even fresh milk. Remember to bring a container!

2. Your local greengrocer

We stock an irresistible selection of seasonal, organic fruit and vegetables, without all the unnecessary packaging. Ask one of our team for their top tips for the day.

3. Look after yourself

Our health and bodycare team really know their stuff; they prioritise quality ingredients, ethical sourcing, and reduced packaging. Take a look when you’re next in store.

4. Relax at the Café

Your home away from home. Chill out and enjoy some fresh, organic goodies and don’t leave without trying the pastries, they are life-changing!

5. Just ask

Whether there’s something specific you’re looking for, or you just want a bit of inspiration – our friendly and knowledgeable team will be happy to help.

Welcome to our organic, local, ethical – altogether better – food community.
