By Bristol24/7  Thursday Jan 2, 2025

*Please note this job opening has closed*

Are you passionate about telling stories from your community? Are you interested in pursuing a career in journalism?

Bristol24/7’s Community Reporter scheme could be for you and we are actively seeking three new reporters now.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Our Community Reporter scheme was set up in 2020 to provide paid, entry-level opportunities into journalism and a platform for underrepresented voices in our city.

Previous Bristol24/7 Community Reporters have gone on to secure full-time jobs in journalism or been promoted into roles at Bristol24/7, such as former Community Reporter Andy Leake who is now Bristol24/7’s LGBTQ+ Editor.

Am I eligible?

A Bristol24/7 Community Reporter is someone aged 18 or older who lives in a deprived area of Bristol and/or comes from a community historically underrepresented in media.

According to Bristol City Council, the most deprived wards in Bristol include Hartcliffe & Withywood, Lawrence Hill, Hengrove & Whitchurch Park, Filwood, Lockleaze and Avonmouth & Lawrence Weston.

A community may be underrepresented due to race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or other protected characteristics as defined in the 2010 Equality Act.

A Community Reporter is also a budding storyteller. They do not need to have professional experience or qualifications but should have some paid/unpaid experience making written/video/audio content.

They may have written a blog, worked for a school or community magazine, self-produced a podcast or have a growing TikTok or YouTube presence.

What will my roles and responsibilities be?

All successful candidates will be contracted to work for Bristol24/7 on a part-time freelance basis.

Successful candidates will be expected to produce at least one piece of content – written, audio or video – per day.

How much will I be paid?

Successful candidates will be paid £90 per day.

How will I be supported?

All successful candidates will receive regular feedback and advice on the work they produce for Bristol24/7.

Our in-house team will support Community Reporters who produce content for Bristol24/7, helping them edit and upload their pieces to our website and social media channels.
