Prince of Darkness

Director
John Carpenter
Certificate
15
Running Time
102 mins

Priest Donald Pleasence (who else?) uncovers a bottle of green gunge while poking about in his church cellar. This turns out to comprise Essence of Beelzebub, and it’s not long before this is leaking out and turning everyone into zombies.

Part two of John Carpenter‘s ‘Apocalypse Trilogy’ (it was sandwiched in between The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness) was snootily dismissed by critics on release in 1987 but, like so much of Carpenter’s work, has now acquired cult status among the more discerning. Trivia note: Carpenter wrote the script as ‘Martin Quatermass’ in homage to Nigel Kneale. Trivia note 2: watch out for Alice Cooper as a zombie.
