Bristol Bad Film Club: Rawhead Rex

Director

Running Time
90 mins

Shot in 1986, a full year before Hellraiser, this was the second screen adaptation of a story by Clive Barker. He adapted it himself from a yarn in volume three of his Books of Blood series. Alas, despite being nicely shot in southern Ireland, this was something of a disaster, its rubbery monster provoking chortles rather than fear. The simple story has a horny-handed farmer digging up an old stone column, thus unleashing the ancient risible latex demon.

Still, somebody must love this because Bristol Bad Film Club are showing the new Arrow Video 4K restoration in the crypt of St. John on the Wall church as part of Museums at Night. All profits go to The Churches Conservation Trust. Go here for tickets.
