As the title suggests, Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza‘s follow-up to their award-winning Salvo is a mafia flick. It’s based on the true story of 12-year-old Giuseppe Di Matteo, who was kidnapped by the mob back in 1993 to prevent his hitman father turning informer. When they had no further use for the kid after two years, he was whacked and his body dissolved in acid. Grassadonia and Piazza’s clever reworking of this grisly story as a fairytale introduces the invented character of Luna (Julia Jedikowska) – a young girl who’s smitten with Giuseppe (Gaetano Fernandez) and is alone in refusing to conform to her community’s code of silence following his abduction.
