The Little Mermaid Sing Along

Director
John Musker, Ron Clements
Certificate
U
Running Time
83 mins

Back in 1989, Uncle Walt Disney’s studio deliberately set out to recreate the feel of their classic animations with this adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s melancholy morality tale: an old-fashioned piece of magic with a princess heroine, a handsome prince, a Jiminy Cricket-style conscience figure and some catchy nut none-too-contemporary songs.  Ariel, the eponymous mermaid, yearns to be turned into a human so she  can get off with hunky prince Eric. Nasty sea with Ursula offers her legs so long as she forfeits her voice. but the catch is that if she can’t get it together with Eric she’s condemned to eternal U-rated torment and hellfire.

It’s a technically delightful, tuneful ‘toon with plenty of funny bits of side-business. And now you can bellow along with it thanks to those handy on-screen lyrics.
