John Lasseter‘s 2006 Cars – a Fast & Furious for tots – was a rare dud from Pixar animation, receiving the worst reviews of any film produced by the studio until Cars 2 came along in 2011. But both films took shitloads of cash at the global box office ($1 billion, since you ask), and made even more loot from merchandising, which is presumably why we’re getting this threequel.

The story has Owen Wilson‘s veteran racer Lightning McQueen taking on younger, next generation rivals led by Armie Hammer‘s Jackson Storm.
