Young hottie Luisa (Sonya Yoncheva) falls for hunky Rodolfo (Piotr Beczała), little suspecting that he’s the son of the local lord. Alas, Rodolfo’s amusingly named love rival Wurm spills the beans to her stern father (Plácido Domingo). Operatic wailing and gnashing of teeth ensues as the lovers are torn apart.
This is the Metropolitan Opera’s first revival of Verdi’s rarely performed opera in a decade and marks another Met collaboration between Domingo and James Levine.
