Made in the same productive year as the better-known The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman‘s Wild Strawberries was a major influence on Woody Allen, who’s recycled elements of the storyline on more than one occasion. It follows an elderly, egotistical doctor on a car journey to receive an honorary degree, during which a series of encounters, reveries and flashbacks cause him to re-evaluate his life.
It’s back on screen in the Watershed’s Celebrating Ingmar Bergman season marking the centenary of the great Swedish director’s birth.
