The title does not lie, though this is a Bulgarian-German western exploring modern-day cross-cultural tensions.
The strangers round these parts are a German construction crew who’ve been sent to remote rural Bulgaria to build a modern water power plant. Their presence arouses the hackles of macho locals, sparking petty grievances on both sides which lead to a full-on John Ford-style east-meets-west cultural showdown. And rather like that Greek satire Chevalier, this testosterone-fuelled male world is slyly observed by a female director (Valeska Grisebach).
