May Miles Thomas‘s no-budget drama-doc about her mother-in-law is drawn from a huge archive of material which she uncovered while clearing out the late Erica Thomas’s home. This revealed an eventful life of which Erica’s children were completely unaware.
Narrated by Siân Phillips, it’s a story that spans 70 years, journeying from Hungary to Britain, via America, Antarctica and outer space. Erica’s life and work encompassed World War 2, the Cold War, the end of Empire, Vietnam, eugenics and mind control. The film also highlights the prejudice endured by talented women in this era. May Miles Thomas will be present for a Q&A after the Watershed’s screening.
