Irish director Lenny Abrahamson follows the Oscar-nominated Room with this period gothic horror adapted from the Wilkie Collins-esque novel of the same title by Sarah Waters, whose Fingersmith was reworked by Park Chen-Wook to become The Handmaiden.
It’s 1947 and country medic Dr. Faraday (Domhnall Gleeson) is summoned to decaying pile Hundreds Hall, where matriarch Mrs Ayres (Charlotte Rampling) lives with her two adult offspring: disfigured WWII veteran Roderick (Will Poulter) and Caroline (Ruth Wilson). Spooky stuff begins to happen as he’s drawn in to the family’s affairs.
