Despite coming from wealthy families in Paraguay, long-term lesbian couple Chela (Ana Brun) and Chiquita (Margarita Irun) are in dire financial straits and have to sell off their heirlooms just to survive. When Chiquita finds herself in the slammer on fraud chages, Chela has to fend for herself for the first time. Eventually, she begins to provide a taxi service to a group of rich elderly ladies. Along the way, she forms a friendship with a younger woman, who draws her out of her shell.
Marcelo Martinessi‘s feature debut is an understated, well acted character study that also throws light on Paraguay’s class divisions and the privileged lives of the nation’s wealthy elite.
