Described by the Hollywood Reporter as being like “a Dan Brown movie made with more naturalistic, art house intentions”, Marguerite director Xavier Giannoli‘s drama casts Vincent Lindon as Jacques – a traumatised hack who’s dispatched by the Vatican to look into the case of Anna, an 18-year-old French girl who claims the Virgin Mary popped in to see her.
His investigation complicated by the local church cynically profiting from the credulous hordes descending on their village, Jacques begins to bond with the troubled young woman who may or may not be making the whole thing up.
