Much was made of the feminist credentials of Patty Jenkins’ recent Wonder Woman movie, but these actually go right back to 1941 and an American psychologist named William Moulton Marston, who wrote under the pseudonym Charles Moulton. He was inspired by early feminist pioneers to create a liberated lady comicbook hero, known as Wonder Woman. Marston was also partial to a bit of S&M and enjoyed the attentions of two women in his complex domestic arrangement: his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and hot young student Olive Byrne.
Writer/director Angela Robinson‘s unconventional superhero origin tale casts Welsh actor Luke Evans (y’know- Apollo in Clash of the Titans) as the spanky boffin, Rebecca Hall as his missus and Australian actress/model Bella Heathcote as Olive. You can’t really go wrong with such great material, though festival reviews were mixed, with The Guardian‘s manifestly disappointed critic opining that it boasts “the blandest and most tasteful three-way sex scene in history”.
