Only the Brave

Director
Joseph Kosinski
Certificate
12A
Running Time
133 mins

A true-life modern all-American hero drama in the Patriots Day/Deepwater Horizon mould, its only surprise being that the producers have neglected to cast Mark Wahlberg in the lead role. Instead, we get a rufty-tufty Josh Brolin in charge of an elite team of firefighters tackling Arizona’s Yarnell Hill wildfire back in June 2013.

Miles Teller is our old chum the wet-behind-the-ears new recruit, while Jennifer Connolly lands the thankless role of the worrying spouse (try to suppress a chuckle when she’s told: “It’s not easy sharing your man with a fire”). Behind the camera is Joseph Kosinski, who directed Tom Cruise in Oblivion.
