Director
Ang Lee
Certificate

Running Time
128 mins

Yann Martel‘s bestselling, Booker Prize-winning fantasy yarn with religious overtones reached the big screen courtesy of Ang Lee back in 2012. It’s the tale of an Indian boy named Piscine ‘Pi’ Patel who survives a shipwreck only to find himself adrift in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The film has a tendency to get a bit bogged down in sixth-form spiritual guff at first, but takes off with the spectacular storm and shipwreck scenes, which are among best-ever uses of the 3D gimmick.

It’s back on screen at the Redgrave Theatre as part of an Ang Lee double bill with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
