What with Mr. Whitey Oscar desperately keen to disprove accusations of racism, this was a classic slice of Oscar bait that duly received three nominations. How can you go wrong with the uplifting, previously untold true story of a trio of brilliant African-American women who fought prejudice behind the scenes to help NASA launch the first white man (John Glenn, for it is he) into space back in 1962?
Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae play the inspirational ‘computers’, as they were known, while Kirsten Dunst gets the role of the nasty white bee-yatch who fails to display any gender solidarity. Go here for our full review.
This free outdoor screening on the We The Curious Big Screen on Millennium Square is part of a year-long programme of activities based on the central theme of time. This event in turn is part of the Change For The Future strand exploring the question: “What If I Could Change The World?” You’re invited to take a picnic. Deckchair seating will be provided on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so feel free to bring along your own blankets/camping chairs/beanbags. See the event’s Facebook page for more information.
