Charlotte Rampling dominates the screen as the eponymous woman who slowly falls apart after her husband’s incarceration for an undisclosed crime in this chilly Italian drama for which she bagged the Best Actress gong at the Venice Film Festival.

Reviews were mixed, with some critics finding it all too slow and forbidding, though all acknowledged Rampling’s mesmerising central performance.
