Remember the Maysles brothers’ extraordinary Grey Gardens? This followed eccentric mother and daughter duo Edith ‘Big Edie’ Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith ‘Little Edie’ Bouvier Beale, aunt and first cousin respecively of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Although these biddies lived in the opulent suburb of East Hampton, New York, such was the parlous state of both their finances and mental health that their mansion fell into decay.
That Summer is something of a companion piece, comprising lost and previously unseen footage of the Beales, which was shot much earlier than the Maysles’ movie and has been compiled by Swedish director Göran Hugo Olsson. Watch out for Andy Warhol…
