The world’s first film festival celebrating woman in extreme sports and adventure returns to Bristol for its fourth annual bash. The two-day Shextreme event kicks off with a film school at Paintworks on October 4 (go here for more info and to book). October 5 brings this screening day at the Loco Club.
This year’s premieres include A Land Shaped by Women: a surf and snowboard film following two Freeride World Champions, Aline Bock and Anne-Flore Marxer, as they explore Iceland’s incredible landscapes and the country’s rich history of promoting gender equality.
As usual, there will also be a panel discussion. Confirmed speakers include Hazel Findlay, the first British woman to free climb El Capitan in Yosemite; Dr. Easkey Britton, environmentalist and five times Irish National Champion pro surfer; mountaineer and NASA-trained astronaut Dr. Suzie Imber; Paul Diffley, an award-winning adventure filmmaker; and Anoushe Husain, a prolific para climber and role model.

This year, the festival also expands its awards categories to include a Best Adventure Blog award (in partnership with Boundless Betty) and Best Non-Fiction Adventure Book award (in collaboration with Ellis Brigham). All this plus live adventure art, performance poetry from Dr. Easkey Britton and the winner of the Shextreme Poetry Competition. Go here to book tickets.
