Wim Wenders trundles round the globe listening attentively – nay, respectfully – to Mr. Pope’s pronouncements on everything from poverty to the environment. But despite, of perhaps because of, his remarkable access, Wenders appears to have his snout rammed so far up the pontiff’s arse that he fails to ask inconvenient questions about abortion, child abuse and the Catholic Church’s massive wealth.
One for Catholics only, then. As for the rest of us, here’s what The Guardian had to say: “…this is an almost outrageously sugary, platitudinous film, like an ultra-glossy promotional video that might be shown on a loop in some tourist visitors centre associated with the Vatican.”
