One of the few to predict a Trump win, Michael Moore does his familiar satirical documentary thing, citing disillusion with a broken political system as driving the the rise of populism and playing to the gallery by comparing Trump to Hitler as he asks: “How the fuck did this happen?”
The film got a wide release in the US and was well-received by Moore’s liberal fan base, but unlike his earlier Fahrenheit 9/11 it failed to break through to a mainstream audience. How come? According to one box office analyst interviewed by trade journal Variety, which described the film as having ‘bombed’: “When Fahrenheit 9/11 came out, Michael Moore led the discussion. With Fahrenheit 11/9, he is merely echoing it. That’s a big difference.”
