Iceland’s submission for Best Foreign Film Oscar, Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson‘s blackly comic feuding neighbours flick centres on simmering tensions between two couples who reside in identical suburban abodes.
These boil over when a tree on one front lawn starts to cast a shadow. What happens next? Well let’s just say you wouldn’t want to be a family pet in these circumstances. There’s much pitch-black humour as events spiral out of control, but Sigurðsson is careful to make the bourgeois feuders fully-rounded characters, which pays rich dividends when matters take a turn for the tragic.
