Best known for the likes of The Passion of Joan of Arc and Vampyr, Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer cited 1920’s The Parson’s Widow, as one of his personal favourites. Set in 17th century Norway, it’s a warm comedy about a young theology student who works hard to become a minister so he can marry his sweetheart. But when he achieves this ambition, he’s somewhat alarmed to find that the post is conditional upon marrying his predecessor’s widow.
South West Silents present this new restoration by the Swedish Film Institute with live musical accompaniment from John Sweeney.
