Jasmine Joyce named in Team GB sevens squad

By Martin Booth  Friday Jun 18, 2021

Bristol Bears Women winger Jasmine Joyce has been named in Team GB’s sevens squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Welsh international represented Team GB at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and has now booked her seat on the plane to Japan as part of the 12-player squad.

Head coach Scott Forrest said: “This squad for me has the potential to go and win a gold medal. We have 41 days to go until the first game and understand that there are improvements we need to make over that period until we get to our first game.

“We’ve definitely got the potential and that for me as a coach is really exciting.”

The Team GB squad is made up of Joyce and Holly Aitchison, Abbie Brown, Abi Burton, Deborah Fleming, Natasha Hunt, Megan Jones, Alex Matthews, Helena Rowland, Hannah Smith, Celia Quansah and Emma Uren

Joyce’s call-up comes in the week that Bristol Bears have signed two England players from Harlequins.

Lock Abbie Ward and scrum-half Leanne Riley have both signed from the current league champions to boost Dave Ward’s squad ahead of the 2021/22 Premier 15s campaign.
