Bristol Rovers shave heads in support of Nick Anderton’s cancer diagnosis

Bristol Rovers players have swapped footballs for clippers as they shaved their heads to support team mate Nick Anderton following his cancer diagnosis.

Defender Anderton found out he has rare form of bone cancer in 2021 which required chemotherapy and an operation in October.

The 26-year-old has not played for Rovers since he was diagnosed but his club and teammates have regularly showed their support including wearing t-shirts with the slogan ‘we’re all with you, Nick’.

The club chose January 16, also the day known as Blue Monday, to go bald in honour of Anderton’s squad number 16. Manager Joey Barton, fans, staff and coaches were among those who shaved their heads.

Rovers have a GoFundMe page to raise money for Anderton and his family, which currently stands at over £35,000.
