Record-breaking turnout for Bristol City Women v Arsenal
A record-breaking crowd watched Bristol City Women play Arsenal in what was described as a “sensational” atmosphere at Ashton Gate Stadium on Sunday evening.
The 27,000-capacity stadium was almost half full as the Robins continued their fight in the Women’s Super League.
12,008 people turned up to watch the game, which saw the evening close with a 2-1 win by the Gunners.

Bristol City started briskly, with midfielder Rachel Furness scoring from a header after 15 minutes.
Speaking after the game, Furness said: “I think I have to reach out to the fans tonight. They were excellent… there was a great atmosphere here tonight and the fans are a massive fortress this season. They pushed us on tonight.”

There was a bittersweet finish with the loss to Arsenal but a win for Bristol City Women nonetheless with the support from fans.
“They were excellent, they always are,” said Lauren Smith, City’s head coach. “It just means that we’ve got another record to beat.”
