Oxtoby steps down as City manager

By Martin Booth  Monday Aug 16, 2021

Tanya Oxtoby was originally due to temporarily hand over the reigns as Bristol City Women manager while she was on maternity leave.

But the Australian has now stepped down permanently from the job which she has held since 2018.

Last season, with Matt Beard in charge, City were relegated from the WSL with their Championship campaign under interim head coach Lauren Smith starting on August 29 away at Crystal Palace.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Oxtoby said: “The last three years have been an amazing journey, full of highs and lows, with so many lessons learnt along the way.

“However, this feels like the right time to part ways with the club, as we both start new chapters.

“To every board member, staff member and player who came through the door during my time, thank you!

“You have all made me a better manager, coach, leader and more importantly a better person. To our die-hard supporters, thank you for always sticking by us through thick and thin, your support has and will always be the backbone of this club.

“I wish the club every success in the future, and, for one last time, COYR.”

Bristol City CEO Richard Gould added: “On behalf of everyone associated with Bristol City I would like to thank Tanya for her service to the club over the last three-and-a-half years.

“We all wish Tanya, her partner and baby boy Albie the best of luck for the future.”
