Why Bristol Is A Must For Thrill Seekers

By Advertising Feature  Friday May 17, 2024

From casinos and escape rooms to rock climbing and ballooning, Bristol truly has it all. So much so that thrill seekers from far and wide descend on the city every year.

Bristol’s proximity to the coast and countryside makes it favourable amongst those looking for outdoor adventure, while the city centre’s electric nightlife makes it the perfect destination for gamblers, escape room artists, and even axe throwers!

Read on as we explore why Bristol is a must for thrill-seeking tourists.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Casinos
While Bristol only features three major casinos, each of the three can provide gambling fans with an abundance of thrilling slots and table games.

Beside the Genting and the Grosvenor Casino, you also have the Rainbow Casino, which is located in the city’s nightlife hub, the Bristol Harbourside. This stylish venue is the perfect place to enjoy a late-night drink and take your chances on blackjack, roulette, or the £20,000 progressive slots. Open 24/7, gambling fans can spend as little or as much time as they like at this casino.

However, the city’s brick-and-mortar casinos are not the only way to enjoy casino games if you’re Bristol-bound. If you’re not looking for an in-house experience, you could try some EU casinos that accept UK players. The sites picked out by Nick Pappas provide just as thrilling an experience as physical casinos do. There are low minimum deposits and high payouts to be won on these online gambling sites.

Axe throwing
Like many UK cities, Bristol has joined in the emerging axe-throwing trend. In fact, Bristol has more venues than most other cities in the country, with five main axe-tossing venues to choose from.

Adventure Bristol, Max Events Bristol, Battle Archery Bristol, and the Bristol Activity Centre can all provide you with an outdoor axe-throwing experience.

Whistle Punks Urban Axe Throwing Bristol, on the other hand, is the perfect place to try out the sport indoors. Whistle Punks is also a great option if you’re new to the sport.

After receiving a safety briefing, your designated instructor will go over the basics of throwing and also teach you some special trick shots, too. A perfect evening and weekend activity, Whistle Punks can accommodate parties of up to 10 people and also features a bar.

Rock climbing
While in Bristol, it would be rude not to explore some of the nearby natural wonders. One way to get up close and personal with nature is to partake in a rock climbing adventure! There are several rock climbing options you can try within the vicinity of Bristol.

Wookey Hole, for example, is a series of limestone caverns that can be reached in under an hour by car. It’s also the site of the deepest cave dive in Britain, which was 90 metres!

The Wild Wookey caving experience allows you to abseil into difficult-to-reach parts of the caves and climb through small gaps. If you’d like to appreciate parts of the caves that are not often seen, you should definitely sign up for this instructor-led caving activity!

Another rock climbing experience you can try that’s also south of Bristol is Rocksports at Cheddar Gorge & Caves. You’ve got two options when caving at Cheddar Gorge: you can either practice your climbing on the outside wall or test your bravery as you descend into the underground caving system with little more than your head torch! Whichever you choose, Cheddar Gorge is sure to satisfy your thrill-seeking cravings.

Hot air ballooning
Bristol is home to the biggest hot air balloon festival in the UK – the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta – so it makes sense that the city has plenty of hot air balloon experiences on offer.

Several companies operate daily hot air balloon experiences in Bristol, including Virgin Balloons, Fly Away Ballooning, and Wonder Days. Throughout the ballooning season, these companies offer both sunrise and sunset flight options, which both provide you with stunning views over the city.

Ballooning experiences tend to leave Ashton Court Estate and use the south-westerly wind to drift across the city centre. From the balloon, you’ll be able to spectate such vistas as the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Queen Square, and Harbourside.

If you’re in Bristol in August, why not book a balloon for the Fiesta and join in the 100+ balloons that take to the sky for this special occasion?

Escape rooms
Last but not least, we can’t talk about how thrilling Bristol is without mentioning its selection of escape room experiences. If you’re looking for a more light-hearted escape, check out A Grand Way Out, an escape room dedicated to Bristol’s own Wallace and Gromit.

If horror is more to your taste, Hell in a Cell is about as intense as it is exhilarating. You also have Locked in a Room, Escape Hunt, and Riddlr Escape Rooms to choose from – all of which demand problem-solving, quick thinking, and a high thrill tolerance.
